Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country located in the Western Balkan peninsula of Europe. The larger region of Bosnia is located in the northern and central parts of the country, with Herzegovina entering the south and southwest. These historical sites are not compatible with the two independent political organizations established by the 1995 International Dayton Accords: the Republika Srpska (Republic of Bosnia), in the north and east, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the western and central regions. The capital of the country is Sarajevo; important regional cities include Mainar and Banja Luka.
The world often feels the influence of the powerful regions that it wants to exercise control over, and these influences have helped to create Bosnian and Herzegovina’s ethnic and religious mix. Islam, Orthodox Christianity, and Roman Catholicism all exist, and these three beliefs are generally associated with three major ethnic groups: Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats respectively. This multiracial nation, along with the country’s history and geographical location between Serbia and Croatia, has long made Bosnia and Herzegovina vulnerable.
During the Bosnian War, the economy suffered $ 200 billion in material damage. Bosnia and Herzegovina face the dual problem of rebuilding a war-torn country and introducing liberal market reforms to its previously mixed economy. One legacy of the past is a strong industry; under former Republican president Džemal Bijedić and SFRY President Josip Broz Tito, steel mills were being developed in the area, resulting in the construction of a large part of Yugoslavia’s plants; S.R. Bosnia and Herzegovina had a very strong export-oriented economy in the 1970s and 1980s, exporting large-scale product sales to millions of dollars.
Through much of Bosnian history, agriculture is made on isolated farms; new food is traditionally sent from the republic. The national currency is the (Euro-pegged) Convertible Mark (KM), which is controlled by the currency board.
